This morning, Google have announced their new user policy management for Google Apps. This has been coming a while now and is a welcome introduction.
For me however, this is made doubly exciting due to the changes that are coming in the next few months, namely the merging of Google Apps, and the Google consumer services. This is being set up very nicely so that in a few months, you will be able to add ANY of the Google services onto your domain, and control access for who can use them.
A couple of obvious examples – you will be able to use blogger as part of your domain, but only allow certain people within the organisation to speak officially on behalf of the company, or have an image library on picasaweb for all your employee photos but only allow the use of this by the HR department.
Slightly unimaginative I know, but I am sure you can think of many other ways that you can use this new functionality!
And remember, there is no extra charge, you don’t need to install/upgrade/buy new servers, you just turn it on, and enjoy the economies of scale and enterprise strength infrastructure that Google provide for you. All you need is a browser….
The next few months should be exciting times indeed!
